I’ve been building software and designing systems for most of my life, always with an eye on scalability and security. It’s the kind of work that forces you to think several steps ahead—about growth, about risks, and about how to keep things from breaking when people inevitably try to push the limits.
When AI started to move from the research labs into everyday products, I couldn’t help but wonder: How can this actually work in production? How do you scale these systems so they’re reliable? How do you make sure the investment pays off? And—maybe the biggest question—how do you keep sensitive information safe in a world where large language models thrive on data?
It’s one thing to use tools like GPT, Claude, or Gemini “out of the box.” If you’re just generating text or experimenting, the risks feel manageable—though even then you have to worry about rate limits, costs, and the possibility that sensitive details could leak.
But once you bring proprietary company data into the picture—documents, reports, files with different classification levels—the stakes change. Suddenly, the system has to not only generate useful answers but also respect the fine-grained access rules of who can (and cannot) see certain data. That’s a far trickier challenge.
Until now, my own AI experience has been pretty lightweight: using chatbots to generate code snippets, answering questions. I have a high level understanding of model training, embeddings and fine tuning but I haven’t yet rolled up my sleeves to build and deploy a fully integrated, production-ready solutions.
That’s about to change.
This blog marks the start of my quest to go deeper—really deeper—into AI. I’m setting out to learn everything from local environment setup and experimentation, all the way to building scalable, secure architectures that can hold up in production. Along the way, I’ll be documenting not just the successes, but the challenges, the roadblocks, and the unexpected lessons.
